A week ago Pearl Jam hinted on Twitter and Instagram that a “special announcement” would be made soon, but there was no indication as to when or what. Speculation began almost immediately and before long the rumour about Global Citizen Festival was widely spread.
It has now been confirmed that Pearl Jam, along with Beyoncé, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran, will headline this year’s annual festival on September 26th in New York City’s Central Park. This will be Pearl Jam’s only show in U.S. in 2015.
There is a chance to get tickets for free by joining the Global Citizen community and “take action to end extreme poverty” through “journeys” described on the Global Citizen website. VIP tickets will be available for sale to members of Pearl Jam’s fan club Ten Club and later to the public through Ticketmaster. Eligible members of Ten Club have received an email with details.
“We hope Pearl Jam fans will sign up to become Global Citizens – not just to earn tickets to the show – but to be part of a movement that encourages leaders of nations with the greatest wealth to apply aid, trade and governance policies in support of nations and communities in the greatest need,” Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard said in a statement. “People living on less $1.50-a-day deserve the opportunity to lift themselves up out of extreme poverty.”
